The Opportunity

RVS invites applications from qualified individuals for continuing, full-time (35 hrs/wk) School Technologist positions to work a 10-month school calendar schedule starting August 26, 2024. The School Technologist provides the day-to-day technology support and troubleshooting services to staff and students in schools. The School Technologist provides direct support for computer hardware, multiple operating systems in a complex network, and software used in instructional and administrative applications at schools. In addition, the Technologist is responsible for ensuring school technology assets are identified and accounted for. The incumbent is an effective communicator with excellent organization, prioritization, time management and collaboration skills. Successful candidates will require a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operators License and own transportation in order to provide services to all RVS locations. Incumbents must be willing to travel to Airdrie, Cochrane, and Chestermere .

Responsibilities

  • Assists with divisional communication initiatives as they relate to schools
  • Ensures system standards are maintained, as school initiatives are implemented, in collaboration with the team in Technology Services
  • Responds to varying work demands in accordance with RVS service level agreements
  • Demonstrates effective communication solutions in technical and non-technical terms
  • Coordinates the planning and installation of hardware and software in schools
  • Maintains functionality of computer and network hardware, and software/operating systems by diagnosing and directly resolving the issue, or by drawing upon other technical resources
  • Assists in the operation and maintenance of school-based websites and internet services
  • Maintains and updates school software to ensure software copyright compliance
  • Maintains school technology hardware inventory throughout the device lifecycle
  • Provides user support and training for authorized school-based software application
  • Organizes and prioritizes workload to effectively respond to the technology needs of staff and students
  • Provides support to teaching staff with regards to implementation of Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Maintains efficient working relationships with staff and students to support student learning
  • Completes all assigned projects efficiently within assigned timelines

Education/Experience

  • A+ Certification or equivalent credentials in computer hardware/software and network support; or a related field from an accredited post-secondary institution
  • Two or more years experience in the setup of networked microcomputer workstations and computer technical support and troubleshooting preferred
  • An equivalent combination of Education and Experience may be considered

Knowledge and Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of industry standards for computer operating systems (Windows and Mac)
  • General administrative knowledge of network and infrastructure
  • Thorough knowledge of hardware maintenance procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
  • Demonstrated comprehension of the role of technology in educational institutions
  • Demonstrated ability to apply sound problem-solving processes and troubleshooting systems
  • Demonstrated ability to work and learn both as a member of a team and independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to remain current with contemporary and emerging technologies in RVS
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills to support a wide range of clients across RVS
  • Flexibility to manage changing workflows and time effectively
  • Aptitude for innovation and continuous improvement
  • High levels of service-oriented performance, integrity, and professionalism
